Ingredients

Method

  1. Cook rice according to its package. Pat tofu dry. Heat neutral oil in a skillet and cook tofu for 10–12 minutes, turning to brown several sides.
  2. Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar and maple syrup. Pour half over tofu and toss for 1 minute.
  3. Divide rice between bowls. Add tofu, carrot and cucumber, spoon over remaining dressing and scatter with sesame seeds.
A little note

Press very wet tofu first for better browning; pressing time is extra.

Cooking tips

  • Dry tofu with a clean towel before cutting; surface moisture slows browning.
  • Let each side form a crust before turning, and add the sauce near the end so its maple syrup does not scorch.
